Philippine Australian Alumni Association, Inc. Los Banos Chapter Activity Announcement
Clean Up the World (CUW) originated in Sydney, Australia in 1993 and is held in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The campaign brings together community groups, schools, private companies, governments, and individuals in a range of activities and programs that can positively improve the state of our local environments. It is now regarded as one of the most successful environmental awareness events in the world.
The Clean Up the World in Los Banos is an annual activity that has been conducted by The Philippine Australian Alumni Association, Inc. (PA3i) Los Baños Chapter since 2007. The activities in the previous years are registered with the Clean Up the Philippines Movement, Inc. (http://www.cleanupthephilippines.net).This year, the clean-up activity is also registered at Clean Up the World Pty Ltd in Sydney, Australia (http://www.cleanuptheworld.org).
The Clean Up activity was held at the College of Forestry and Natural Resources Quadrangle in front of the Administration building. This time, we focused on removing the Skyflower (Thunbergia grandiflora Roxb.) that invades the Maquiling Forest. We need to free our trees from these killer vines. These plants spread rapidly and continually sprouting from their roots and kill our trees.
This activity was participated by the students and volunteer groups and organizations at UPLB Campus and other private individuals of common interest. The Clean Up is also a part of the activities of the 2011 International Year of the Forest.
