The PA3i Davao chapter’s research project team led by Dr. Vilma D. Andoy, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) Davao City Division, conducted a research forum for teachers at the DepEd Davao City Division Training Center on 22 June 2012.
The forum aimed to present the findings of the training needs assessment (TNA) study they conducted among selected public secondary teachers in Davao City that investigated the current use of ICT for instruction and the gaps that need to be filled in order to improve teaching methods and approaches.
The research study formed a critical component of Davao chapter’s project in establishing a Continuing Education Center (CEC) that will develop teaching professionals in the use of ICT in teaching and learning in the city’s secondary schools. An open forum followed Dr. Andoy’s presentation, where participants gave inputs and recommendations on how target schools can best benefit from the research findings and from the entire project. Findings of the study will be utilized in the next phase of the project which consists of curriculum development and training of participants.
The forum was attended by principals and ICT coordinators of 11 secondary schools in Davao City along with several DepEd Davao City officials headed by Dr. Ma. Inez Asuncion, Assistant School Division Superintendent of the agency. Special guests who attended the forum included Ms. Milalin S. Javellana, PAHRODF Facility Director; Mr. Mark S. Flores, PAHRODF Deputy Facility Director; and Mr. Rod Sollesta, Portfolio Manager of AusAID. PA3i Davao chapter President Mr. Simeon P. Marfori II and Vice President Ms. Maria Julieta R.
